I Let AI Control My Entire Life for 24 Hours
I have often pondered what would occur if for the duration of twenty-four hours, I had my life led solely under the control of an insentient machine. That is, having no voicing of my own opinions, I simply adhere to every instruction placed by an ethereal face from the start of morning to the end of night. It all seemed quite easy and amusing, but unexpectedly turned hilarious, bizarre and uncontrollable.
My day began with the AI planning out my day. Instead of the coffee and cup of cereal that I normally eat for breakfast, it recommended a weird combination of spicy food, pancakes and an energy drink.

As the combination of flavors was terrible I didn’t question the AI in the slightest and ate it exactly how it told me. I felt totally mortified again when my computer chose my outfit for the day. I had on big, bright colors that didn’t suit each other at all, and I could feel the stares from complete strangers everywhere I went. Some of them turned and sniggered but others came up to me and asked me why I was wearing something so wrong.
After tackling the outfit fiasco, AI was ready to take out my credit card and start managing my shopping. It told me to go buy random stuff that somehow just didn’t go together at all. Less than 10 minutes later I inexplicably had a set of enormous sunglasses, hot sauce and noodles, a bunch of brightly-coloured kids’ toys, and a paperclip-sized microphone.

Seeing those shopping bags put a new perspective on my day! Eventually, the lunchtime AI advised me to visit a restaurant I was completely unfamiliar with and to order the strangest ingredient on the menu. Contrary to my expectations, the dish was delicious and this was the only occasion on which AI made a right call and made my day better. Later on in the evening, AI thought it would be a good idea for me to just pretend to be a social media star for a couple of hours. It told me to produce some more outrages videos in public and start talking like I was a well-known celebrity vlogger. The funniest thing was the random people watching at the odd way I was acting as I was trying to talk with cool towards the camera.
The challenge went on, and it became clear to me how hard it was to be without personal choice. Even the tiniest decisionswhat tunes to listen to, what treats to pick up or where to settle in the living roomloomed heavy once they were dictated by someone or something else. And it really was less about technology and more about how much freedom we’d lost. This was like an eye opener to me that A. I.
is not always safe, fun and organized. It was really chaotic and sometimes unpredictable. Some of the choices we made were unexpectedly useful and at the same time the other choices caused total mayhem. End of the challenge made a normal day in my life the funniest day I ever had.
